FAVORITE NURSERY ESSENTIALS

Winston + Roo has scoured the internet for the most design savvy nursery products out there. Check out below for our favorite finds!

Cribs

Design Considerations

1. Flexibility: Do you want a crib that you can convert into a toddler bed as your child grows? If so, look for a convertible bed.

2. Size and Shape: How much space do you have to work with? Would a round or oval crib work best for your space?

3. Storage Capabilities: Are you limited in terms of storage throughout your nursery? Perhaps a crib with built-in drawers would help!

Bassinets

Design Considerations

1. To Rock or Not: Do you prefer a bassinet that has rocking capabilities to put your baby to sleep , or are you more comfortable with a stationary one?

2. Portability: Do you see a need for often needing to move the bassinet around the home? Perhaps in and out of the nursery and your bedroom?

If so, you should consider the size and weight of the product, and perhaps even consider one with wheels.

3. Visibility: If the bassinet is meant for co-sleeping within your bedroom, you may want to consider  a bassinet with visibility through the sides.

Bedding

Design Considerations

1. Fabric Content: Linen and Cotton (instead of synthetic fibers) are highly recommended for their absorbency and breathability.

2. Essentials: A crib mattress pad or protector and fitted crib sheet are essential elements. Feel free to always accessorize with quilts and blankets.

3. Cleanability: It will save you lots of time and energy in the future if everything within your baby's crib is easily washable.

Dressers & Changing Tables

Design Considerations

1. Functionality: and Flexibility: Do you want a piece that functions as both clothing storage and a changing table?

If so, you'll need to purchase a coordinating topper that you can remove once your child outgrows it. (just be sure the dresser is a functional height!)

 2. Storage: What are your storage needs? Do you want concealed storage? If so, choose something with drawers.; otherwise baskets will work.

3: Size: If you'd rather have a separate dresser and changing table, you should consider how much space you have to work with within the nursery.

Rocking Chairs & Gliders

Design Considerations

1. Type of Motion: Do you prefer a rocking chair (moves in an arc) or a glider, which moves back and forth on a fixed track?

Keep in mind that rocking chairs require more space generally, so be sure to account for that!

2. Comfort: Many rocking chairs and gliders are sold with coordinating ottomans. Consider this option for added comfort!

3.. Longevity: Choose a durable leather or fabric that is easily cleanable, or consider dark fabrics that will easily hide stains.

Lighting

Design Considerations

1. Layering: Choose 3 different light sources (a ceiling fixture, changing table light, and reading light) for the perfect illumination levels day or night.

2. Dimming Capabilities; Consider putting one or several lights on dimmer switches, to be able to have more control of different lighting levels.

3.  Nighttime Lighting: Add a night light for late night visits to your little one.

Area Rugs

Design Considerations

1. Existing Flooring:  If you're putting the carpet on top of hardwood floor, a plusher carpet would be best.

If you're layering the area rug on top of a wall-to-wall carpet, a thinner carpet will work just fine.

2. Cleanability:  Polyester rugs are easiest to clean, but also consider a machine-washable rug. Check out the blog for more information!

3. Pattern & Color: A rug can serve as a piece of artwork for your floor. Keep in mind the other elements in the room, but feel free to creative!

Storage & Organization

Design Considerations

1. Side Table: Consider placing a side table next to the rocking chair or glider chair, as a surface for a baby bottle, small light fixture, or additional storage.

2. Wall storage: Display rails, shelving, and hooks can make a statement depending on what you choose to display, so get playful!

3. Diaper Storage and Hamper: Get creative with your storage for the every day items- think fun patterns, materials, and colors.
